The 365 Project {2020}: August

What can I say about August 2020…

It was my hardest month thus far since starting my 365 Project.

I struggled BIG time.

Most days this month, I found myself almost forgetting to bring out my camera as the day drew to an end.

It was the first time since starting my business (almost 3 years ago) that I felt like I fell into a rut. I lacked the desire to be creative at home. I've always struggled with anxiety and the lack of focus when my world around me feels so unorganized-and this month it really showed. I struggled to find a balance between being a stay at home mom and running a business full time and boy was August the month that almost broke me.

But even with all the uncertainty surrounding me (and so many others) this month, I really tried to focus on the little things. The simple everyday things that sometimes we miss or forget to appreciate. The things that make a house a home or the moments that seem mundane, but we know we'll miss when they're gone. Maybe August was so hard because I know September will most likely be just as hard, if not harder.

So goodbye August 2020. You pushed me to my limit, but even though I lacked motivation to document you this month- I'm glad I pushed through because I'll forever cherish both the bad and good days of 2020!

The 365 Project {2020}: July

July began with the celebration of my son’s seventh birthday on the first of the month and it ended with our annual family beach week.

It was another month that felt like it just flew by in a flash…I mean how could it possibly be August already?

There were plenty of days this month that felt like they were going to last forever, but more days than not we had days and even weeks that went by far too fast. It was a month of adventuring out more, outside the comforts of our own yard and neighborhood.

This month I started to fill my calendar with more work, my oldest participated in summer camps, and we even took two trips traveling to Saluda, North Carolina and Litchfield Beach, South Carolina to spend some quality time visiting with grandparents and family.

The 365 Project {2020}: April

April has always been my favorite month of the year here in Charleston. A month filled with flowering trees, amazing weather, evening trips to the beach, Spring break, and of course all things Easter. However, this April was quite different from the past Aprils I love.

Like everyone, April this year was spent quarantined at home.

This month we didn’t see friends or family or head to our neighborhood pool on the hot summer-like days. The Easter bunny filled our Easter baskets with left over Christmas gifts and Halloween candy. My work schedule, unlike the expected busy season, was non-existent and spring break wasn’t much of a vacation.

Instead, the days were filled with lots of kindergarten school work, inventions and messy crafts, late night drives in grandma’s new golf cart, and endless lightsaber wars. Spring break was spent at home watching childhood classic movies, building forts in every room and tie-dying every white garment I could find (to include my blonde-haired boys). And our yard was turned into a personal amusement park once again, with the newest addition of our upgraded kiddie pool.

Even with the stress of not being able to work or not knowing what the coming months might bring- life at home this month has forced us to be creative, to be okay with being bored and has taught us to be thankful for the things we often take for granted.
